A ribbed shell that disperses impact

The outer shell is ribbed to narrow the contact area on impact, helping spread the energy away from the mirror itself rather than passing it straight through to the glass and housing. In the areas most exposed to knocks, the multi-layered shell is up to 6mm thick.
