Rather than a simple trickle charger, the Milenco OptiMate 6 is a multi-stage 12V smart charger that tests, recovers, charges and then maintains a caravan or motorhome's leisure battery.

Automatic, staged charging

The unit analyses the battery first, then moves through recovery or desulfation, charging, testing and maintenance stages automatically. Ampmatic control varies the charge to suit the battery's size and condition, and it's designed to be left connected long-term without overcharging.

Safety features

It's spark-safe and protected against reverse polarity and short circuits, housed in a weather-resistant casing with status LEDs to show what stage it's at. It's compatible with deep-cycle and starter 12V lead-acid batteries — flooded, AGM, gel and EFB.

Included leads

The box contains the charger, a crocodile clamp lead for quick connections, a fused ring-terminal lead for a more permanent fitting, a mains lead and a user guide. Fitting the ring-terminal lead means you can plug in whenever you're parked up; just check polarity (red to positive, black to negative) and keep the area ventilated.
