Leisure batteries take a beating from seasonal storage, so the Milenco OptiMate 6 is designed to look after a 12V lead-acid battery both on the road and while it's sitting unused between trips.

Who it suits

OptiMate 6 is intended for motorhomes, caravans, campervans, cars, motorcycles and boats running deep-cycle or starter 12V lead-acid batteries – flooded, AGM, gel or EFB.

Day-to-day use

The charger is supplied with two leads: a crocodile clamp lead for quick, occasional connections, and a fused ring-terminal lead intended for a permanent fitting so the battery can be plugged in and left whenever the vehicle is parked. Polarity needs to be matched correctly – red to positive, black to negative – and the charging area should be kept ventilated.

Long-term storage

Because the maintenance stage won't overcharge the battery, OptiMate 6 can be left connected through extended lay-up periods, periodically testing the battery to keep it in good condition for when the vehicle is next used.
