Essential Maintenance Tips for Steps

The Milenco Original Aluminium Double Step is a straightforward, hard-wearing piece of kit, but a little regular care keeps it safe and sturdy for years of caravan or motorhome use.

Check the tread and frame

Before each trip, give the step a quick visual check. Look over the wide 360mm x 210mm tread and the aluminium frame for dents, cracks or loose rivets, particularly around the two step heights (180mm and 360mm) where most of the load is carried. Aluminium won't rust the way steel does, but it can still pick up scuffs and light corrosion from road grit and salt, so wipe it down after wet or wintry trips.

Keep it stable underfoot

Because this is a double-height step, stability at both levels matters. Set it on firm, level ground each time you use it, and avoid using it on soft grass or gravel where a leg could sink unevenly. Checking that the frame sits flat and doesn't rock before you put weight on it takes seconds and avoids a wobble on the way in or out.

Cleaning and storage

A wipe with warm water and a mild detergent is normally enough to keep the aluminium finish looking presentable; dry it off before you pack it away so moisture doesn't sit trapped against the frame. Store it somewhere it won't get crushed under other locker items, since a bent frame is the most common reason a step stops sitting square.

With this basic routine — a quick inspection, a level pitch, and drying off before storage — the Milenco Original Aluminium Double Step should keep giving safe, reliable access to your caravan or motorhome, trip after trip.
