Essential Maintenance Tips for Locking Wheelnuts

Locking wheel bolts do their job with almost no ongoing maintenance, but a few habits make sure they keep working smoothly and that you are never caught out without a key.

Record your key number

As soon as your Milenco Locking Wheel Bolts (Caravan Set of 4) arrive, note the key number somewhere safe — separate from the key itself. If the single supplied key is ever lost, this is what you will need to order a replacement.

Keep the key with you

Store the key somewhere you will actually have it when you need to change a wheel, rather than leaving it at home. A wheel bolt you cannot unlock at the roadside defeats the point of carrying a spare tyre.

Check the fit periodically

Because the bolts are friction-coated for consistent clamping, it's worth checking wheel bolt torque is correct after any wheel removal or refit, in line with your caravan manufacturer's torque figures.

Watch for wear or damage

Inspect the bolt heads occasionally for signs of corrosion or damage, particularly if the caravan is stored outside, and have them checked by a tyre fitter if anything looks amiss before towing.
