Essential Maintenance Tips for Leads & Adaptors

The Milenco 13-pin to 7-pin lighting adaptor (SKU 1717) is a simple plug-in part, but a couple of habits will keep it reliable for towing.

Check before every tow

Push the adaptor fully home until it latches, then check indicators, brake lights, tail lights and fog light all function correctly before setting off. This is a lighting-only adaptor, so a faulty connection here directly affects your visibility to other road users.

Keep the pins clean and dry

Store the adaptor dry when it's not in use, and keep the pins free of dirt or corrosion, since a poor contact at the plug is the most likely cause of an intermittent light fault.

Remember what it does not carry

This adaptor is for road lighting circuits only, not auxiliary supply such as fridge or leisure battery charging. If something powered by the caravan's 13-pin feed stops working through the adaptor, that is expected — it was never carried by this connection in the first place.

Keep it as a spare

Because it's compact, it's worth keeping in the glovebox permanently in case you tow with, or lend your trailer to, a vehicle with a different socket type.
