Essential Maintenance Tips for Hitchlocks

A hitchlock only protects you if it keeps working smoothly, so a little regular care on the Milenco Super Heavy Duty Winterhoff Hitchlock (WS3000) goes a long way.

Fit it correctly

This lock is designed for Winterhoff WS3000 hitches from 2002 onwards without a side lever. Use it hitched or unhitched as intended, but never while actually towing.

Look after the keys

Three stainless-steel keys are supplied, but there's no master key system, so record your key number and store it somewhere safe as soon as the lock arrives — that's what you'll need to order a replacement if a key is lost.

Store it properly

Use the supplied carry case when the lock isn't fitted, to keep the cylinder and steel body protected from knocks and the weather when it's not in use.

Check it periodically

Because it's built from 4mm steel with a high-security cylinder, it should need little beyond an occasional check that the lock still turns smoothly and the security ball is seated correctly before you rely on it.
