Comparing Different Door Locks - Expert Analysis

Milenco makes several door locks for caravans and motorhomes, and while they all share the same anti-bump cylinder security, they're built for different fitting situations. Here's how the main options compare.

Milenco 4718 Inside/Outside Security Door Lock

Fits external walls 25mm to 50mm thick and needs just a 30mm gap between the door frame and furniture. It locks from both inside and outside, and its visible external locking feature is designed as an additional deterrent to potential thieves.

Through-wall slide-action lock (single or triple pack)

This version bolts through the wall using a supplied mounting plate, cover and four M6 bolts, and needs 105mm x 90mm of inside mounting space. It uses a slide-to-lock action and can be locked in both open and closed positions. The triple pack is keyed alike, so one key pattern operates all three — useful if you're securing a habitation door, a locker and a garage door with matching keys.

Door Frame Lock (single or triple pack)

Rather than needing interior space, this screws directly into the door frame and requires only a 5mm gap. It's a good option where wall thickness or internal clearance rules out a through-wall lock.

Multi Lock (single or twin pack)

The most adaptable of the range, supporting through-wall, frame (3.5mm minimum gap) or surface mounting from one product. It's finished in powder coat with stainless-steel fixings and is designed to be rattle-free, and its multi-mount design means it can go on caravan doors as well as van rear, sliding or cab doors.

The bottom line

If you already know your wall thickness and available gap, that will usually narrow the choice down quickly. If you're not sure, the Multi Lock's flexibility across three mounting styles makes it the safer starting point.
